Computers and Functions

Computers and Functions we do many things with computers, from working, entertaining ourselves, searching for information, and so on. When talking about a computer, many people imagine a device with a monitor, keyboard and mouse that are usually placed on the table. Though, the term computer can be applied to almost any device that has a microprocessor in it. Types Computers and Functions

Desktop computers are just one of many types of computers that exist. This time, we will discuss several types of computers.

Types Computers and Functions

1. Desktops

Until the mid-1980s, consumers had only one personal computer (PC) option, namely in the desktop format. Desktops are used to handle individual tasks, such as typing, making presentations, making designs, and so on. The first desktops were equipped with large CRT (cathode ray tube) monitors, keyboards, and mice. Today, it is much smaller and cheaper. Compared to portable PCs, such as laptops or netbooks, desktops generally offer more power, storage, and versatility. This makes the desktop one of many people’s favorite computers to date.

2. Laptops

A laptop is a portable computer that integrates a screen, keyboard, mouse, processor, memory and hard drive all in a battery operated package. Because of this portability, laptops are perfect for use by anyone with high mobility. The first generation of laptops really lost far from desktop computers in terms of performance. However, the more here, the more powerful laptops, not inferior to desktop computers.

3. Workstations

Workstations are single-user computers designed for technical or scientific applications. It has a faster microprocessor, lots of RAM and a high-speed graphics adapter. When compared to desktop or laptop computers, workstations have faster and more powerful performance.

Workstations are usually used to do certain jobs with great expertise. Computer workstations have the following five features:.

Multiple processor cores:

Has more processor cores than a simple laptop or computer.
ECC RAM:
Can fix memory errors before they affect system performance.
RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks):
It refers to multiple internal hard drives for storing or processing data.
SSDs:
Storage is better than conventional hard disk drives and has very little chance of physical failure.
High-end GPU: It reduces the load on the CPU.

4. Hybrid computer

A hybrid computer is the result of combining the features of an analog computer and a digital computer. Analog computers are capable of performing complex differential calculations, while digital computers are best suited for performing logical and numerical analyses. Also, digital computers have higher precision, while analog computers provide a better interface. The first hybrid computer existed in 1961 called the Hycomp 250.

Here are some examples of hybrid computers:

gas station
Electrocardiogram machine
Ultrasound machine
Industrial research and production machines
Machines for forensic purposes.

5. Server computers

Ever wondered how Google can anticipate your search queries in real time and then provide answers to your questions in an instant? It’s all because of the servers. Unlike a desktop or laptop PC, you don’t sit in front of a server and type. Instead, servers provide computer power through a local area network (LAN) or via the internet. Companies both small and large rely on servers to provide information, process orders, track shipping data, compile scientific formulas, and much more.

Servers are often housed in a dedicated room, which may resemble a warehouse. Like a normal PC, a server computer also has typical computer components, such as a motherboard, RAM, video card, power supply, and network connections that are sufficient for any need. Usually, the server computer does not have a special display. So IT workers use a single monitor to configure and control multiple servers, combining their computing power for higher speeds.

6. Netbooks and tablets

Netbooks are ultra-portable computers that are smaller than traditional laptops.  Are often cheaper than laptops. However, because of this extreme cost-effectiveness, netbooks are often less powerful than typical laptops. Tablets then appear and are believed to replace netbooks. This is because tablets have more or less the same performance as netbooks. In addition, there are currently many accessories available that can make tablets more similar to netbooks, such as keyboards, stylus pens, mice, and so on.

7. Wearables

The newest trend in computing is wearable computers. For example, Apple iWatch, this small watch has many functions of a complete smartphone. This allows you to send short messages and emails. It even has a built-in electric heart sensor that you can use to take an electrocardiogram and share it directly with your doctor.

The Apple iWatch is just the start. There are more and more wearable computers, such as ear buds, smart glasses, smart belts, sleep monitors, heart rate trackers and so on. Now, you already know that computers are not limited to desktop computers and laptops. In fact, it is not impossible, the types of computers will increase in the future.
